Uncertainty about the company's future and about who's deciding what on the creative side has left execs in a state of inertia, according to an entertainment lawyer with knowledge of Disney's business. The declining linear TV business culminated in a standoff with Charter Communications over terms for a new contract for carrying Disney's cable channels. And Disney's streaming business, which was supposed to make up for the decline in cable revenues, has lost $11 billion since Disney+ launched in 2019. Churn is a top concern in Disney streaming, some employees said.

Pappas is stepping down after five years with the short-video company owned by China's ByteDance, according to an email seen by Reuters on Thursday. In an email to staff, Pappas said they would be taking on an advisory role for the company during the transition. "Given all the successes reached at TikTok, I finally feel the time is right to move on and refocus on my entrepreneurial passions," said Pappas, who uses the pronoun they. Adam Presser, TikTok's chief of staff, will become head of operations and oversee content, user operations and distribution, Chew said. Last month, TikTok sued Montana after it became the first state to ban the app state-wide.

TikTok hired former Obama and Disney advisers to coach its CEO before his congressional hearing, per WSJ. Shou Zi Chew has seen his follower count on TikTok rise from 18,700 to 3 million in 8 days. Chew was largely unknown before the hearing last Thursday, with just under 19,000 followers on the app, per Reuters. Two days before the hearing, Chew posted an informal introduction on the app – he was dressed in a hoodie and jeans – which has since amassed 4.7 million likes.
